Drivable Grass® Adds Texture and Style to Modern Design
Product Spotlight on Drivable Grass®
The NorthParker is a new, 27-unit mixed-use residential project located in the heart of one of San Diego’s oldest and most eclectic neighborhoods. Designed and developed by Jonathan Segal Architects, the steel and glass, sleek and chic building breathes new life into an area filled with Spanish, Colonial or Craftsman style homes.
The modern design features floor to ceiling windows, clean lines and eco-friendly building products. According to Matthew Segal, FAIA, lead project manager for the NorthParker, they chose Drivable Grass® for several reasons. “We used the product because it creates a different texture on the ground for the parking area. Color was also important to us. In this case, we used a light color mat combined with decomposed granite for added texture and drama. Secondly, Drivable Grass® does not break when tires turn on it as we have seen with competitors’ products,” he says. “We have a large parking area for 38 spots and wanted something we knew we could count on.”
Segal continues, “By using Drivable Grass® we also met all new water quality standards for permeable surfaces and filtration requirements established by the State of California. It helped us achieve the look we desired while being functional, reliable and eco-friendly. We have used Drivable Grass® for other projects and will certainly use it again. It’s a great product.”
