(January 17, 2013 – CARLSBAD, CA) – The Founder of the Virgin group of companies, (including Virgin Atlantic Airline and Virgin Galactic), Sir Richard Branson, purchased the pristine Moskito Island to protect and create the most ecologically friendly island in the world.

This 124-acre uninhabited speck of land is located off the coast of Virgin Gorda and has long been a favorite for scuba divers and sailors.

They are trying to go green and be environmentally friendly with every aspect of the project. Verdura® was chosen to face exposed cuts made for a new roadway.

16,500 Verdura® retaining wall blocks were purchased last year, with a new order of 5,500 blocks expected this year.

Verdura® is a plantable retaining wall system that provides the strength and function of a standard retaining wall with the added ability to sustain live plantings. And, by using Verdura, Developers can gain valuable buildable land while maintaining aesthetics and low visual impact.

Verdura® applications include high and critical walls, tiered walls, channel walls, garden walls, detention basin walls, screen walls and sound walls.
