Our Story: Engineering the Living Landscape
Founded in 1987 by Jan Jansson, Soil Retention was born from a simple observation: Southern California lacked structurally superior, fully plantable retaining wall system. Our journey began with local distribution, but it quickly grew into a mission to redefine the industry with stronger, more sustainable alternatives to the standard block. Today, our legacy of innovation continues through three core systems designed to bridge the gap between heavy-duty engineering and erosion protection.
Verdura® | The Original Green Wall
Our flagship Verdura® system redefined the industry by combining unmatched structural integrity with the option of a fully plantable green wall design. It transforms rigid, grey hardscapes into lush, living landscapes, providing a “Verdant” and “Durable” solution for everything from backyard gardens to massive commercial tiered walls.
Drivable Grass® | Permeable Paving Perfected
As the need for smarter stormwater management grew, we evolved our erosion control technology into Drivable Grass®. These flexible permeable pavers allow for natural infiltration while maintaining a stable surface. With many infill options, It is the ideal, choice for driveways, parking lots, and fire lanes.
Enviroflex® | High-Velocity Erosion Protection
To meet the toughest environmental demands, we engineered Enviroflex®—a premier Articulating Concrete Block (ACB) system. Designed to withstand high-velocity water environments, it acts as a flexible, high-strength armor for erosion control, protecting critical infrastructure while promoting natural growth.

Soil Retention Products, Inc. (SRP):
Our manufacturing powerhouse. We produce high-performance, plantable concrete systems that are distributed and trusted across the United States and beyond.
Soil Retention Systems, Inc. (SRS):
Our licensed contracting division. We specialize in the rapid, professional installation of our proprietary systems for residential, commercial, municipal, and infrastructure projects.
Soil Retention Designs, Inc. (SRD):
Our engineering hub. We provide technical support, CAD details, and site-specific design solutions to ensure every project is built to last.
